Scatter Kindness. Work Ever Smarter, Be Ever Kinder + Serenity Attracts Serendipity Attracts Serenity – HappierHealthier.Blog

Scatter kindness, attract serendipity, become a life artist (collage of designs and quotes © Mira).

There’s a new popular kindness quote online: Scatter Kindness, a version of the older Kindness Matters. Spread or Scatter Kindness works with designs with spring flowers, especially dandelions, which are now in bloom here in Bucharest.

I have my own version of Scatter Kindness, complete with spring flowers. It’s “Work ever smarter, be ever kinder” (working smarter is supposed to lead to being kinder!).

There are many kindness quotes online, with a variety of related sentiments. I’d add to the ones I read things like

Kindness warms the heart (a cliché, but our hearts are always in need of more warm feelings)

Kindness is giving people joy and strength

Kindness heals both the giver and the recipient

Kindness is feeling like a wreath of flowers in spring 🙂 You may notice that the focus on my quote is on “work” and then on “be.” What we “have” materially matters too, but our most wondrous possessions are actually these feelings when we feel in tune with nature and with other people.

When I put together the “Work ever smarter, be ever kinder” design, I wrote the “Work ever smarter on the outside to suggest that an ever larger part of one’s work should be done to help others. Some people do a lot of that naturally in their professions, and every job helps others in some ways. But it’s worth it to be more intentional in this and try to find ways to help others more as our skills—and hearts—grow with age, with good fortune, or simply when we find ourselves to be really happy.

Your work is not only your job but also how you interact with people at your job, including colleagues, customers or clients, and people who you happen to get in contact with as part of doing your job, for example when you attend a conference. All this could be an opportunity for you to spread kindness. Of course, for many people, their job is not all that satisfactory on a personal level, but try to make it more so, or look for another job, if your circumstances permit it. And if you’re stuck with a job you don’t particularly like, try to make your customers or clients happy regardless.

You may have seen the 2007 movie P.S. I Love You, with Hilary Swank and Gerard Butler. I’m reading now the book by Cecelia Ahern and she describes the moment when Holly goes to a travel agency with the tickets for Lanzarote in the Canary Islands, Spain for her and her two best girlfriends. The lady working there who helped Gerry buy those tickets was unhappy with her working conditions, including the lack of air conditioning and her itchy uniform, and she was going away to smoke yet another cigarette when Holly stepped in. She came back to her desk and was the most agreeable person in her conversation with Holly, who had recently lost her husband and wanted as many details as possible about their interaction, given that Gerry had bought those tickets when he was really weak after a second brain surgery and was supposed to be in bed. It may seem heavy sometimes to help others through their difficulties, but if you quiet your own mind and difficulties—not easy to do sometimes—with things like meditation, exercise, and time spent in nature, you can then be there for others more and also jell with them more in a way that will bring back good feeling to you as well.

Working ever smarter could equal more personal growth, and more personal growth could also be directed more and more toward helping others achieve more serenity, strength, joy—and, if you ask me, health as well—themselves.

Speaking of serenity, I have created a range of products with the quote Serenity Attracts Serendipity Attracts Serenity. I have recently sold a mug with this design, which reminded me to add it to this post and allow more people to see it. I have magnets and a lumbar pillow (for calisthenics or yoga) too. I’m showing them below, along with two types of mugs.

I meant the two hearts growing one from the other to signify that one’s heart grows larger through serenity and serendipity, in the sense that it’s in tune with more of oneself and the beauties of this world.

Back to the “Work ever smarter, be ever kinder” quote, I meant the second part about spreading or scattering kindness as a thought and emotion to keep pondering on in our hearts. Sometimes it’s hard to be positive when we’re assaulted by things like anxiety or negative thoughts, but when we do feel calm and relaxed it pays to deepen that feeling by meditating on kindness. That goodness of feeling will then reverberate in our lives and others’ lives, and it may become replicated in other people’s behavior. They too will start to work smarter and be kinder and then pass on that legacy to others.

Kindness is like wildflowers. It’s carried by the wind of emotions and is able to grow easily in so many places as long as it finds a bit of earth, or heart, to hang on to. Spread kindness!
